The inspiration for this bar and music venue is the largely North African neighborhood in Paris whose record stores fuel the raï scene. Under the guidance of Olivier Conan (leader of the French swing combo Bè bè Eiffel), Barbès boasts one of the liveliest itineraries in town, from the brainy pop of One Ring Zero to the outward-bound jazzers who play Wednesday’s “Night of the Ravished Limbs.” Liquid specialties like Absente, Pernod or Ricard set the tone, as do the pressed-tin ceilings and frescoes of Paris.
