Yes, the ice is free, but skate rental is outlandishly expensive: it outweighs free admission for those who do not bring their own skates and it no longer seems like such a bargain. Although the rink is in a lovely park, surrounded for much of its open days with Christmas shops, it has truly pathetic ice, which they clean hourly but do not buff deeply enough (or whatever you're supposed to do to ice) to get out the grooves and scratches. Bottom line: bring your skates and don't expect much.
