John Allan's
Description
Let’s get something straight: John Allan’s is a men’s club, not a spa. “We never say ‘spa’ or ‘manscaping’ or ‘pampering,’” insists the chain’s spokesperson. “It’s a place where guys can just be regular guys.” The newest John Allan’s location in Tribeca is a coolly welcoming slate-and-suede oasis for average joes to grab a quick game of pool, a tall glass of Stella or a manly manicure. For $720 a year, men can join the club and take advantage of its services anytime; nonmembers can stop in for a nonthreatening, reasonably priced signature package ($65) that includes a spiffy haircut, a shampoo (with scalp massage), a little hot towel action, a manicure and a shoeshine—though not a shave. “I didn’t want to be an overpriced metrosexual haven,” explains founder Allan. “But I also didn’t want to be the neighborhood barbershop.”
