Hotel Gansevoort
Description
It’s hard to miss this commanding hotel—a soaring 14-floor contemporary structure that stands out against the cobbled streets and warehouse storefronts of the Meatpacking District. Designed by Stephen B. Jacobs, the five-year-old luxury property gets strong marks for style. Guests enter through the world’s tallest revolving door into a lobby featuring four 18ft light boxes that change their hue throughout the evening. The sleek rooms offer a more muted color scheme, but are fitted with plush featherbeds and photography from local artists, and the roomy marble bathrooms are stocked with Cutler toiletries. Up on the roof, which commands a 360-degree view of the city, facilities are even more impressive. The pool features underwater music and Jeffrey Chodorow’s glossy Japanese eatery Ono has private dining huts and a robatayaki bar—all behind a red velvet rope. For R&R, there’s a subterranean spa and a rooftop bar, Plunge. Rooms: 186. AmEx, DC, Disc, MC, V.
