Studio Museum in Harlem
Description
The first black fine-arts museum in the country when it opened in 1968, the Studio Museum has become one of the jewels in the crown of the art scene of the African diaspora. Under the leadership of director Lowery Stokes Sims (formerly of the Met) and chief curator Thelma Golden (formerly of the Whitney), this vibrant institution presents shows in a variety of media by black artists from around the world.
