Hotel Chelsea (a.k.a. Chelsea Hotel)
Description
Built in 1884, the Chelsea has a long and infamous past: Writer (and noted sot) Dylan Thomas slipped into a fatal coma here in 1953, Lost Weekend author Charles R. Jackson committed suicide in his room in 1968, and Nancy Spungen was allegedly murdered in Room 100 by her Sex Pistol boyfriend Sid Vicious a decade later. Rooms are generally large with high ceilings, but certain amenities, such as flat-panel TVs, washer-dryers and marble fireplaces, vary. Make no mistake, you’re paying for the hotel’s sordid (if not grungy) past—the rooms aren’t
exactly gleaming. Rooms: 400. Credit AmEx, DC, Disc, MC, V.
