When this Aveda Concept Salon opened in 2006, the goal was to be 100 percent green. How’d it do? The space is run by wind power, uses a touch-screen appointment system that eliminates the need for paper receipts (but all paper products are recycled), is illuminated by energy-saving lighting and tidied up using green-cleaning products. We’d say they did a decent job. They’ve even been known to donate hair clippings to an environmentally conscious charity that collects the hair and uses it to clean oil spills. And there are plans in the works to install a water-recycling system. Cuts start at $25 and highlights around $75. Finally, an eco salon that doesn’t require a lot of greenbacks.
