Feng-Feng Yeh
Feng-Feng Yeh of Savant (fengfengyeh.com)
Who she is: When we see the work of Feng-Feng Yeh (pronounced “Fun Fun Yeah”), who creates jaw-dropping womenswear (think: racy cutouts and avant-garde silhouettes), we can’t help but get excited over this 28-year-old creative powerhouse. “I’m an emotional designer,” she says. “I wanted to have a line so I could express myself and express what girls want now.” After graduating from FIT in 2006, she interned at Calvin Klein and Narcisco Rodriguez before launching her own label, Savant, which she operates out of her huge Tribeca loft.
About her line: With its deconstructed Americana party-girl vibe, her debut collection in spring-summer 2009 featured a hot-pink elastic-cage pencil skirt, an elastic bra-top, a sexy cotton button-down and a denim vest and high-waisted shorts. “I was inspired by my exposure to the city and the structures around me,” she says. In the current collection, the Savant girl seems to have traded club nights for gallery openings—the look is more grown-up, thanks to lush silk harem pants, suede dolman-sleeve tops and gauzy minidresses.—Sara Graham
