Description
This sparse Japanese eatery celebrates food and drink in equal measure. Its easy to get excited scanning the menu, which combines classic preparations with inventive ones from chef Jun Hiroshima (Bond St.). But the less adventurous items are the safest bets. Satisfyingly sticky black-pepper chicken wings made for excellent beer chow, and duck ramen featured a perfectly soft-cooked egg and springy noodles. In addition to the beer and sake selection, its worth trying one of the shochu cocktails, including the refreshingly herbal Shiso Fine, made with muddled shiso.

Best restaurant of the year in Williamsburg - and by far the best Japanese. No sushi here (thanks for not trying to overreach - although Williamsburg still needs a real sushi option). This place perfects what Qoo down the street is trying to do, it's a damn good izakaya, the food is easily on the level of Manhattan, and even the high end izakayas of Tokyo. Try any of the duck dishes, the pork bun, and you won't be disappointed, in fact you might be amazed at how good real japanese food is. The
Wow, I was just curious to try out a new Japanese place in the neighborhood, and it was so much better than I expected! They have the usual izakaya fare like yakitori, pork bun, ramen (best ramen I've ever had btw) but also some really creative stuff like fluke sashimi with tomato sorbet and berkshire pork belly with quail egg. All I can say is YUM. And the prices were a nice surprise. Fortunately they just got their liquor license so now I can get me some sake to wash down the deliciousness!
