With just two tables and a cramped row of stools, Yola’s may be one of New York’s tiniest restaurants. Yet the restaurant’s Mexican fare erupts with huge flavors. The buttery fried fish taco will satisfy any Mexican transplant, and Yola’s gigantic burritos are an appetizing antidote for late-night hunger pains despite being packed with too much rice. Yola’s pork fillings—the chorizo sausage, spicy pork enchilada, and carnitas—are repellently fatty, but the spice barrage of the pollo tinga (chicken in chipotle sauce) works perfectly on the guacamole-laden tacos and crisp tostadas.
