Description
In Italian, gonzo is slang for “cool”—which is as good a word as any for this trattoria. Starters include cichetti (Italian-style tapas) and other antipasti, as well as soups, side dishes and grilled pizzas—superb, paper-thin and slightly smoky-tasting. The flavorful chicken gets its moistness from being cooked under a brick. A delicious polenta cake is more authentic than the malted-milk-ball gelato, but either is a fine way to cap a meal. A note to you cool cats: The high-ceilinged rear dining room may appear more desirable than the snug front bar, but the noise back there comes close to being a roar.
