The 200-year-old building is called the James Brown House and—purely coincidentally—a stellar collection of music luminaries from Philip Glass to Tom Waits has trod its creaky floorboards. The food is basic, and so is the decor. Appetizers include shrimp cocktail, smoked trout and country pâté. Most of the entrées change daily, but there’s always a fish dish, a burger and a roast. Select dessert from the three pies on the counter. Best of all, you can sit here all night (perhaps doodling a melody on the paper tablecloth with the complimentary crayons) and feel no pressure to eat and run. In other words, they won’t make you get up, get on up.
