Description
The sweet smell of smoke greets dinersand sticks to their hair and clothesat this insta-classic. Thin, bubbly, locavore pizzas are the soul of this operation, helmed by husband-and-wife team Francine Stephens and Andrew Feinberg (Savoy). A sausage-and-cheese pie isnt just a cravings-saterits a work of art. The chewy, charred pizza, with coins of funky house-cured meat, buffalo mozzarella and fragrant Parmesan cheeses, a sauce thats so sweet it reminds you that tomatoes are fruit, plus a drizzle of olive oil, is among the citys best. Between the other excellent pieslike the clam-dotted version with chili and parsleyand multiple appetizers (if its on the often-changing menu, order the house-cured cod with crisp radishes), its tough to choose. Note: The place is popular, and they dont take reservations.

I finally had the opportunity to have a meal at Franny's...a bit late in the game but I'm glad I did b/c now I know I am not missing anything. The pizza was so so...nothing was particularly memorable about the meal except the price!!!! What a rip off! Come on Time Out...a $15 appetizer consisting of one, ONE link of sausage and tiny amount of greens. I usually do not comment on websites but I was steered wrong by Time Out and doubt if I'll listen again.
