Description
There’s no taxidermy here and the space doesn’t double as a general store, but this Slope restaurant-pub cultivates the same quasicolonial vibe pioneered by Freemans and Marlow and Sons. The dining room has the look of an old photo: Glossy black paint coats the wainscoting, and the lighting radiates from filament bulbs. Tried-and-true dishes include the French-dip sandwich (a crisp baguette with sliced beef and savory jus) and goat-cheese panna cotta with Concord grapes. Don’t leave thirsty: Old-timey cocktails are rather good, and the suds list features domestic organic brews.
