Sleek yet low-key, this hard-to-find restaurant (in the basement of a nondescript midtown office building) is a virtual university of Japanese rice wine and the food that complements it—as befits a spot whose name means “sake brewery.” Try a tasting flight of some of the 200 sakes, then snack and share from the menu of small plates. Sheer bean-curd sheets are wrapped around a fresh, meaty pork filling in the yuba shumai. Daikon salad is dressed with a mix of mayonnaise and mentaiko (spicy pollack roe), then topped with shredded, dried seaweed and fresh daikon sprouts. Sushi is available, but it’s done better elsewhere.
