Description
This easy-on-the-eyes LES eatery, with gem-toned, Moroccan-style lanterns reminiscent of a hookah bar, aspires to merge Gallic and North African cuisines. Chef Talel Hmaidi (Mark Hotel) has a ways to go. Although Tunisian ajjaspicy merguez submerged along with a poached egg in a garlicky tomato saucewas excellent, we were underwhelmed by a baby-chicken tagine entrée in desperate need of more of the promised saffron. Even the typically reliable finale of baklava was cold, soldered to its plate with a pool of honey.

I strongly disagree with this review. We ate at Elyssa Dido recently, and the food was simply amazing. We had the lamb tagine, rather than the chicken one, but it was perfectly flavored, with a wonderful cinnamon aroma and deliciously tender lamb. We also thought that the baklava was the best we've had anywhere (and we've eaten a lot of baklava). Atmosphere was lovely, service friendly and efficient, and BYO is a real plus. I can't recommend Elyssa Dido highly enough!
Don't know when your reviewers tried this place, but my friend and I ate here two evenings in a row fairly recently, and loved it! Food was good quality, well-presented and good value, and the BYOB without corkage charge was an added bonus on the value front. Service was friendly and efficient, but not overly attentive. Just right really.
