Description
Located in the restaurant-starved area near the Empire State Building, this French eatery touts the buckwheat crêpes (or in regional parlance, galettes) that Brittany is known for. We savored a classic versionan egg with Gruyère and Black Forest ham, with a glossy yolk peeking outand washed it down with that other Breton delicacy, hard cider. Though the pancakes get top billing, other successes include an elegantly rendered beef bourguignonne, and for dessert, a pot de lait with toasty chicory gelée. You could eat just crêpes at Bar Breton, but that would be limiting.

We visited this place for brunch today and I agree with TimeOut - it is a deserving place in an severly underserved neighborhood. Coming in, it looked like any stale midtown eatery, but take a few steps beyond the bar, or have a seat on the not-too-trafficked fifth ave outdoor tables, and enjoy the galettes and the very good coffee. The basket of pastries had some lows, but all-in-all, service was great and food was excellent considering the price. Considering the area, it was beyond awesome!
