Description
Beat-heavy music floods the dining room of this cavernous Southeast Asian restaurant, and eating a meal here means enduring thudding bass with every bite. The food isnt good enough to compensate. Halibut in warm lobster broth and cold crawfish salad tasted flat. A disjointed dish of roasted duck breast came with a bowl of vegetable curry and a shot of cloying passion-fruit lassi. A cocoa-nib soufflé offered some comfort for dessert, but we would have been happier skipping it and escaping the head-splitting racket.
Hours

I have been here a couple of times before and i thought the food was great! I went back 1 month ago to enjoy a great night out with the girls. Unfortunately, the manager Catherine was EXTREMLY UNPROFESSIONAL & VERY UNPLEASANT!?? Trust me in this economy good luck finding people who actually have no problem spending cash just to have a good tme. I USED to enjoy this place but I will never go back now... There goes about 12 pissed off customers who will take their money elsewhere!!!
The last feedback from "LSKJKLAS " seems unreasonable.. PRANNA is totally cool.. Apart from the place being extraordinarily eligant, they are running great promotions during early hours, foods is consistantly outstanding, service is couteous & warm, place is pack during weekends particularly.. In my view, it is best in the area without a doubt.. Everyone must must visit..
one word *TERRIBLE, the owner is a tyrant lunatic. DONT GO TO PRANNA.
Just went to Pranna and food was perfect along with service and drinks. Really affordable lounge menu. You can eat and have two drinks in the lounge for less then $40 a person. It's a perfect place for this economy. The place is gorgeous and the atmosphere comfortable. I will definately be going back
Servers were rude, food was just okay way overpriced in my eyes.. Satay meat was dry even though we did get lots of sauce to cover dried out mean.
Last night went to Pranna with a large group of friends. Everything was great. The satays were flavorful and were with four sauces. My favorite was salty lime mint. The space is gorgeous comfortable and very user friendly. We stayed in the lounge for atleast four hours and ended up ordering some dinner entrees as well. The whole fish was really good. I will definately recommend this place for large group or ven a romantic night out since they have so many cosy areas for couples.
ok - thinking about going here on Friday night after work for an early (7pm) dinner. We are four forty something girls celebrating our annual Christmas dinner - would any recommend this place or can you suggest someplace else? We are foodies and not afraid to spend money on a nice meal.
Amazing, Fabulous and Gorgeous place. Extremely large in size you can get lost. food, service and vibe perfect. The Nan bread with the dips is delicious. The satays with the dipping sauce out of this world and perfect flavors. The seating very comfortable and luxurious. The music is global, eclectic and sounds great.. Its my favorite. I have been there three times on different occassions with different people. LOVE IT
I went ther for lunch as well and place was not crowded since they opened just two weeks back for lunch. I am a picky eater but loved everything. The lunch price fixe was just $24 for three courses and sandwiches and salads at about $14 to $15. I loved the food and the service and I agree with MJ the Nan bread was absolutely delicious and totally complimentery. I will definately spread the word
Not for the finicky eater. Very limited menu. Decor was superb but food was not great. A bit too exotic for the average person. Not crowded at all at the height of lunch time. May not last long. Best part was the flat bread they serve.
PRANNA ROCKS. Amazing satays and great flavors. We are having our holiday party at Pranna. Totally looking forward to it. Gorgeous decor and great addition to the neighbrhood.
Went there last night and it was great. Its absolutely not a club but the vibe is very lounge like. There is nothing wrong with the food and service. All in all great experience. Will definately go back
This place is a joke. Way too loud for a serious restaurant. I agree with the comment below 100%, You cant be a club because you want to sell drinks but a fine dining restaurant for notoriety and press. Make up your minds or you might find it hard to pay the rent on that enormous space. Don't waste your time with this place... If it lasts over 6-12 months its only because the owners are throwing good money after bad...
Went to Pranna tonight and the place was hopping. The food, service and ambience was amazing. We had dinner reservations and stayed afterwards for the party and had a great time. The music was perfect and our whole group enjoyed every bit of it. Love it. I will definately go back. Perfect night out.
OWNERS OF PRANNA, Have some respect for the neighborhood you just moved into. Allowing your drunken patrons to scream in the street is most definitely not OK. There are MOST lounges and bars control the environment in front of their establishment. Keep it up and you may have to learn the hard way. The community board and 13th Precinct are going to be ALL over you and your liquor license. Naomi 80 Madison Ave.
Is this place a fine dining restaurant or a club? You cant have 35-45 yr old diners spending $100/head whilst drunken 20-somethings nurse a drink and loudly hit on girls... talk about poor concept and identity crisis
I just love this place. I have been there twice and it was an incredible experience both the times. It is a beautiful restaurant with superb decor and warm ambiance. It has Great food, deserts, drinks and service. The cocktails were amazing and the lounge was very comfortable. I will definitely go back to this place.
Went to Pranna tonight anf stayed for dinner after drinks in the lounge. My wife and I had three courses. We oredered the chef satays, appetizers and some tapas type dishes form the satay menu. Loved the lamb slider and curry puffs, The satays were perfect. We also ordered a bottle of syrah and it was $48. Very affordable. All in all we spent $120 for a pretty decent meal and in a beaufiful dining room. The service was pretty good too. The owner herself was in the room overseeing everything.
This place is gorgeous and the food is really good. The cocktails are delicious. I had the dragon fly and maekhong. Loved both. The satayss and the drunken noodles were really flavorful. I had the six spice lamb and my girlfirend had the prawns with the risotto. Both great. Desserts were out of this world. Brioche bread pudding was a special for the night and the Bakery which is on the menu both great again. Service efficient and friendly. Servers are knowledgable. All in all very reasonable.
Well this place is what everyone says it is, really big and very pretty. Food was cold. My cocktail was good, but the bartenders looks really bored and uninterested is making conversation with anyone they were serving.
We were at Pranna yesterday and loved the food. The satays were delicious and very reasonably priced. We had a few cocktails and ordered lot of satays and small bites and bill was less then $50 per head. So cheap...... I am definately going back.
Went to Pranna last night and the place was gorgeous. As you enter the feel and energy feels warm and positive. We ha reservations at 7:30 so we go there at 6:30 and had some cocktails in the satay lounge. Comfortable alcoves and cosy seating. Loved it. The dining is subtle with beautiful color scheme and very calming. The food was delicious. I had the Khaosoy noodles with the prawns amd we alsl had the hanger steak, Both very good. Scallops and the tom ka soup also very good. Great desserts too
So it seems that not just HANK but, more folks like MARISSA has internet Tourettes. Seems that MARISSA has given 8 negative reviews so far repeating herself. Clearly this is ill-intended behavior. So, people should ignore these repeat reviews and rather appreciate reviews from variety of people. I haven’t been at PRANNA more than 3 times. But, my experience has been great so far. It’s about food, price, atmosphere, service, consistency.. PRANNA hasn’t disappointed so far. ENJOY PRANNA. It rocks.

Rude people and weak food does not equal a good time out. Won't be returning.
I was just wondering if Hank had ever 1) been to anyplace other than McDonalds and 2) seen a psychiatrist about his tendency to repeat himself. I think he has internet Tourettes. Now, aside form Hank (who I promise you has a mullet and still gets wasted with his college buddies on Saturday) Pranna is a really nice addition to this area and I wish it continued success.
I agree with nirat . Pranna totally ROCKS. Went tonight sat at the satay bar and enjoyed everything thoroughly. The food, service and ambience one better then the other. Can't complain about anything. Prices extremely reasonable perfect for this economy. I go there quite often since I live in the neighbrhood. The owners are always walking around and checking up on everything. Perfection shows.
PRANNA rocks!! Best of the places in the area.. What a place.. Huge space with balance energy. Great decor, unbelievably great food, quite reasonable.. Satay bar is offering some cool items.. Was at the oepning party!! It was grand.. This is a must visit place.. I have been there 2-3 more times and consistantly great food.. The main dishes are also beyond tasty!! Never had this good of food.. Lots of veg choices.. Go with colleagues, spouse, girl/boy firend, family, business clients.. it offers

I would like to say first and foremost that Hank has to stop commenting - your dribble and incessant whining is distasteful. Please take yourself next door to the local Quiznos has you may find their cuisine better suited to your drab palate. Pranna is a space where you can enjoy yourself and be at ease to be a Manhattanite. Food is great – attention to detail in décor can easily be appreciated. The owners; Rajiv and Payal are an amazing, entrepreneurial couple – best wished to all of their endeav
I hate this place. My friends all came here for a birthday and I ended up going out to get pizza afterwards to wash the taste out of my mouth.
Went to Pranna and the food, service and drinks just perfect. I have been there 7 times since it opened and absolutely love it. I have a party planned this Saturday for my friend's birthday and I am looking forward to the flavorful food and amazing ambience. The best in the area.
Went back with the wife again. Got a drink and attitude at the bar. Went to Olana for dinner. Food was AMAZZZING.
I went to Pranna last night with a group of 15 friends. Loved it. Sat in the Satay lounge and had lots of small bites and satays. I was quite shocked to see how inexpensive everything was for the value. The satays were delicious and the lamb sliders to die for. After couple of hours we decided to move into the dining room and the ambience was perfect. So different from the lounge. We ordered some share plates and 3 bottles of wine. Again the pricing extremely reasonable. Can't beat it. WOW....
Went to Pranna yesterday and sat in the dining room for a change. Went with my boyfriend and it was reallt romantic. Stayed for afetr dinner drinks in the satay lounge and loved it. Everything was graet food, service and the vibe. Planned a bd party for Friday for my friends in the satay lounge on this Friday. The place is so spacious and cosy as the same time. Different environments no matter where you go. I enjoyed my experience at Pranna. the satays and cocktails were the highlight.
Went to opening party and had an amazing time. Drinks were fantastic and interestingly spiced! Music was danceable and listenable! Food was wonderful. Definitely going back!
SOMETHING SPECIAL ON MADISON AVE!! One step into Pranna reminded me why i myself am also in the restaurant industry. What a great concept and design!. The whole staff from bottom up really seemed excited to be there. A few of the dishes were a bit spicy for my taste but still delicious and well prepared. My server was so great too, i wish i remembered his name. Even the owners and GM are always walking around and it is obvious they strive for perfection and are dam close to it!
Came here after reading about it on a few blogs and decided I needed to be my own judge and try it out. The space itself is absolutly breath taking, 3 floors, 3 bars ample seating everywhere. This place is Fun, ELEGANT, and CHIC. So many different and delicious items that temped me on the menu, my only regret is that I wasn't dining with more people so I could have tryied more things. Its all about sharing here! Service awsome, and staff friendly. The GM even took time to give us a private tour!
Went to Pranna tonight for drinks and absolutely loved it. The satays were amazing. The place looks very expensive when you enter but the portions were huge for the price points and extremely filling. Went with ten girlfriens for a girls night out. They had live DJ spinning and the music was very good. The vibe and atmosphere was very sexy. We asked the manager and she said they have live DJ every Thurs, Fri and Sat. We made a reservation for dinner next Friday for fourteen people. Loved it.
I came here for dinner with some girlfriends and we were insanely disappointed. What a gyp. I'd rather go to the seedy bar down the street from my apartment, at least they give you enough food for your money!
Went to Pranna and loved it. had the drunken noodles and the appetizer portion was plenty for dinner. My boyfriend and I shared it. Had the four sampler satay and agin a homerun. Loved the butterfly whisper and dragonfly cocktail. The Nan bread was delicious and totally complimentary. Had the Pranna bakery for dessert and love it aswell. I am definately going back for the great food, ambience and amazing vibe.
I don't know why this place keeps getting negative reviews. I have been there atleast four times and encountered nothing other then great food and cocktails. The servers were knowlegable and I will recommend Pranna to everyone. Great vibe and absolutely gorgeous space. I will continue going back.
The guy Vick below hit it on the nose. The service is terrible and the food is pathetic. Maybe they should train their employees and chefs to provide better service and food. This place is a failure on all fronts. I wouldn't bring my worst enemy here.
Went to Pranna on Saturday. They had a live DJ spinning after 10pm. The music was great and we had gone with a large group of 12 people. We sat in the satay lounge and ordered 8 selection satays and lots of small bites. The food, service and the vibe was great. The drinks were absolutely delicious and very addictive.I spoke to the manager and she said they will have live DJ every Thursday, Friday and Saturday after 10pm in the lounge. I love this place. We are going to be regulars here.
Went there with my boyfriend tonight for drinks and dinner. Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food. The drinks were absolutely delicious the kind of drinks that you get at a high end cocktail bar like PDT or employees only. The dinner had all the right spices and the sommerlier sold us a great bottle of Muscadet wine to pair with the food. We really enjoyed the food, service and drinks. Even the dessert was quite unique. We had the stone fruit flatbread with goat cheese. I am going back
Went there the other night. Staff is slow, unpolished and under-informed. You either get cold bland food or something with blazing hot flavor that will buckle your knees. My wife asked for a mild dish and received a spicey dish that could have launched a Titan Rocket. Drinks were ok but took a while to get after ordering. Staff was talking and unattentive. Asked to speak to a manager and no one showed until we paid the check and were leaving. Why do baffoons try to open restaurants?
Pranna is amazing. Food and decor. The service is also very professional. The food portions are ample. We ordered a few satays and small bites and the prices were so cheap. The satays with the four dipping sauces really fill you up and thise pickles are scrumpious. The size of the portions for the dinner entres are huge not tiny at all. I think actually its too much by New York standards but better too much then too little. The cocktails are delicious. I am definately going back. LOOOVE IT....
I don't know what all the hype about this place is, maybe people in NY have lost all their taste-buds, but I definitly won't be coming back here again. The servings were tiny, the food was generic, and the atmosphere was a bad mix of 70's disco/adult film and MC Escher's painting of the room of stairs. A total waste of time and extremely disappointing.
I love to go and try out new restaurants and I am glad I went to Pranna. The place is beautiful and the vibe is wonderful. The wine and cocktail menu is designed very well keeping the list organic. I am a firm believer of going green and I am happy that I AM ABLE TO FIND A RESTAURANT OF THIS SIZE GOING GREEN. Enjoyed all the satay and had the duck curry for dinner. The flavors were great. My companion had the lamb and it was cooked perfectly. We shared the sorbet and bakery for dessert.. So good
I am skeptic of new "trendy" restaurants but this place is an exception! The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is simply delicious! Every bite was made my taste buds dance. I found out that all the food is organic so that was a big PLUS in my book...not to mention the drinks!!! Got to try Chai's Tease and Twighlight on Madison--soooo good! The restaurant is just the place to go to after a long hard work week-
I just don't know how people say that the food is bland at Pranna. We live in the neighborhood and have gone atleast 4 times to Pranna. THE FOOD IS NOT BLAND. The flavors are exceptional. Infact some things have quite a kick. The papaya salad is delicious and whole fish with chochee curry is amazing. We go there on a regular basis and even the satay bar and small bites menu is very flavorful. I definately recommend Pranna to everybody.
NY cuisine is usually a hit or miss. a lot of the time, the restaurants fall into the trap of either caring more about caring more about the food, or caring more about the presentation. Pranna is def. the latter. The presentation of the food is wonderful, but the taste is bland and worthless. It's obvious that they're just covering up for their lack of good ingredients and tasty dishes. This has been crossed off my list of places to eat.
Went to Pranna last night. The food and drinks were great. I don't know what previous reviewer is talking about. I am a big foodie and the flavors are right on. Great concept. Next time I am going to sit on the Sate bar and eat dinner. The prices are extremely affordable for the size of this restaurant. A must try.
Came in last night with some friends hoping for some tasty asian food. Next time I'll just go to Chinatown instead. Master Wok is better than this place. I don't know what everyone else is thinking.
Wen to Pranna with a large group of 12 people. Sat in the Horizon Suite in the Sate lounge. The cocktails and the food were outstanding. This will definately be the new spot in the area. The neighborhood needed this. The prices are extremely reasonable and not a rip off like many restuarants in the city. Ordered Sate sampler with the dipping sauces. Also had cashews and needle noodles. Quite unique flavors. Not run of the mill Asian food. Definately will spread the word.
I went to Pranna last nite for the opening. The space is beautiful. Went for drinks, stayed for dinner. This is going to be the new hot spot of Flat Iron. Lamb chops are unreal..
i walked by this place yesterday and figured i'd stop in and check it out. wasn't thrilled with anything they had to offer. the food (from the satay bar) was kind of bland (the dipping sauces were great, but that shouldn't make the meal). the decor reminds me of that south park episode where the persians take over the bar and decorate it with the cheesey velvet and gold. i may go again if someone else will pay, but i wouldn't spend my money there again.
I live in Chelsea and came by last night to check it out with my boyfriend. The lounge was romantic and we shared a bottle of wine and a platter of satays. It was a bit quiet, but I don't imagine it will be so for long.
This restaurant is lame. Not only do their dishes suck, the main management obviously disrespects their employees. Won't be back.
I sat with friends in the satay lounge and enjoyed wok-fried cashews, honey chicken wings and lamb sliders. The cocktails were amazing and the lounge was very comfortable. Prices were reasonable, too. I live in Murray Hill and will definitely be going back for Happy Hour.
Dim lighting made it impossible to read menu or see the person I was dining with. Food was bland and presented in the same manner. Wait-staff had their heads in the clouds. Music and overall atmosphere were incredibly cheesy.
good drinks, lame everything else (except the one manager with glasses who seemed to know everything about the place). i wouldn't go back though.
Great Restaurant. Beautiful space. Lots of cosy alcoves for big groups. Nice addition to the neighbourhood. Delicious food. Will definately go back.
I went here on opening night and will not be returning. The food was subpar, the music was annoying, and the lighting was so dim I could hardly read the menu. Don't bother.
