The owners of Avenue B’s Pizza Gruppo decided to export their wafer-thin crust to folks who could use a radical shake-up in their food supply: Gramercy locals. Wooden booths, blue slate tables, vintage diner stools and a wine-stocked bar add a chic, romantic air to this mini corner hangout. The stone oven produces pies in two sizes, large or personal, with loads of topping choices. The kitchen also makes a number of salads and a daily ravioli, but it’s best to skip straight to the specialty. A pizza that includes ricotta cheese and caramelized onions on its cracker-crisp base gets high marks, especially when accompanied by the house Montepulciano.
