This hidden Italian-food gem is overseen by former fashion executive Rita Sodi and chef Michael Genardini (L’Impero). The toque’s homey menu favors simple dishes like a delicious lemony artichoke salad with shaved Parmigiano, or an entrée of tender, satisfying fried-chicken chunks. Avoid more extravagant dishes, like a $52 langoustine special, which doesn’t live up to its price tag. Rusticity also rules the pared-down desserts: An ingenious chocolate “salami” combines Grand Marnier–laced chocolate and graham-cracker crumbs, mimicking the look of the cured meat.

A comment on the criticism above - "Cooks with too much butter, especially for Italian, to be considered for quality fare. a) Italians rarely rarely rarely use butter (olive oil is the staple)". This is not true. Cooking in Northern Italy (with the exception of Liguria and Emilia-Romagna) uses butter in preference to olive oil. You could argue that Tuscan (i Sodi)cooking should not be butter-dominated, but not that butter "rarely rarely rarely" used in Italy.

Cooks with too much butter, especially for Italian, to be considered for quality fare. a) Italians rarely rarely rarely use butter (olive oil is the staple) b) therefore, butter is like cheating since ANYTHING tastes good with enough butter in it. But my guess is most NY diners are transplants from around the country and really don't know.
