New this week
Auto focus
Forget about Emeril: This neon-pink eatery’s onomatopoeic name, Bamn!, alludes to the way the food is doled out: It’s an automat—the first one in NYC since the Horn and Hardat at East 42nd Street and Third Avenue closed in 1991. Patrons enter, deposit change into the vending machine and open a door to receive freshly prepared snacks like chicken nuggets, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches and Japanese doughnuts. 37 St. Marks Pl at Second Ave (212-358-7685).—Leslie Price
Soho Park
For months, Soho residents have been wondering what’s behind the paper covering the windows at this restaurant on Lafayette and Prince Streets. This week, the owners have finally unveiled a café filled with classic American and European street foods. Breakfast includes muffins and eggs, lunch features burgers and Belgian fries, and dinner specials change daily. There’s even a mini beer garden, with a camouflage picnic table, but the garden closes at 9pm to appease the neighbors. 62 Prince St at Lafayette St (212-219-2129).—James Oliver Cury
Lansdowne Road
Named after a famous rugby stadium in Dublin, this Irish pub—opening in Hell’s Kitchen the first week of September—has 13 flat-screen TVs, 14 beers on tap, and pub fare like burgers and wings. 599 Tenth Ave between 43rd and 44th Sts (212-239-8020).
Tour
The menu at this new Chelsea restaurant-lounge—which replaced Diner 24—is organized by country, not by course. The options vary based on what’s seasonal. France, Italy and Greece star currently on the brunch, lunch, dinner and late-night menus. 102 Eighth Ave at 15th St (212-242-7773).
Wine & Roses
Wine Bar and Café Upper West Siders can try 24 vinos by the glass and 100 by the bottle, all sourced from boutique wineries, at this 25-seat venue. Mediterranean noshes include handmade herbed potato chips, panini, salumi and pâté. 286 Columbus Ave between 73rd and 74th Sts (212-579-9463).
