Beer Table

Mimosas, Bloody Marys, Schneider-Weisse? If Beer Table (427B Seventh Ave between 14th and 15th Sts, Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-965-1196) had its way, the lemony German brew would join those first two libations in the brunching hall of fame. The Park Slope hops specialist’s weekend brunch, churned out in the 40-square-foot kitchen and served in the almost equally tiny bar, features the beer ($9) alongside crisp yeast-raised waffles ($14), our favorite selection from its very abbreviated menu. Owner Justin Philips, who led a previous life traveling the world as a beer importer, says Weisse is a popular beer to drink with the first meal of the day in Germany because of its light, fruity taste, and insists it blends well with the yeast of the waffles. We’d have to agree. The sweetness of the beverage also gets by with a little help from its friends: On top of the waffles are seasonal fruits—our preferred combo is the thinly sliced green apples with Concord grapes that burst on your tongue. Feel free to gild the lily with the delicious organic maple syrup served in—what else—a beer bottle. If you finish your tall glass of Weisse but aren’t ready to pack it in yet, those bottles lining the nearby shelves ain’t just for show; the more than 200 craft beers, changing daily, are for your drinking pleasure. But don’t expect a celery stalk as garnish.—Kate Rockland
