Review: DiskJokke
Grand in scope, precise in execution, hypnotic, kaleidoscopic: En Fin Tid is all these things and more.

One part Norwegian weirdo-disco, one part Radioactivity-era Kraftwerk and one big part gorgeous, the sophomore album from Joachim “DiskJokke” Dyrdahl is an album for which now-overused terms like cosmic and epic simply need to be used once more. Album opener “Reset and Begin” marries billowing synthesizer atmospherics to rubbery, loose-limbed percussion; the title track (roughly, “A Happy Time” in Dyrdahl’s native tongue) uses its stately cadence as an anchor for an insanely hypermelodic tune that Hans-Peter Lindstrøm would kill to have created. Grand in scope, precise in execution, hypnotic, kaleidoscopic: En Fin Tid is all these things. But most of all, it’s a collection of timeless songs graced with both humor and beauty.
