Description
Nearly everything about David Adjmi’s play has an original ring to it, from the setting—Brooklyn’s Syrian-Jewish community—to the brassy bleat of the dialogue. The gifted Cristin Milioti plays a teenage bride; Charlayne Woodard is the African-American maid who introduces her to the pleasures of wine, women and cultural studies. (The cast also includes Jeanine Serralles and Danny Mastrogiorgio.) Director Anne Kauffman explores the material with an exceptional eye for detail, and David Korin’s mod modular set is a gorgeous analogue for the way the characters get boxed in by whiteness.—Adam Feldman
