Cancer! The Musical
Description
**** [FOUR STARS] A hopeful and heartwarming romp, "Cancer: The Musical" is the story of Dr. Harris, a cancer surgeon who wants to save Annie, a terminally ill patient with whom he has fallen in love. But to do so, he must first locate Dr. Bernard--a glory-hungry pharmaceutical researcher who believes that he has found a cure for cancer, and has been forced into hiding. (The cantankerous Mr. Murphy, an executive of Folkingthepeoples Pharmaceuticals, has hired a hit man to take him out.) Unfortunately, as the caper unfolds, the character of Annie gets lost in the melee, and the audience is given little opportunity to see cancer from her point of view. But Shawn Handlon, Tom Donnellon and John Edwartowski's musical playfully satirizes the insensitive health-care system with nifty numbers likes “You Cut It, I’ll Cure It” and “It’s Probably Nothing,” and deserves to be seen by a larger audience-—the kind that’s open to living in the moment instead of worrying about where everything is going.--Colette Prosper, Publicity Coordinator
