San Francisco crew Rupa and the April Fishes adapted its name from the French term les poissons d’avril, which relates to April Fool’s. The band’s rustic, rootsy sound takes its cues from across the globe: from slinky Latin American tangos to perky hoedowns and chantey, as you can hear on its beguiling debut album, Extraordinary Rendition. Inspired by Chico Science’s mangue beat, Nation Beat blend Brazilian maracatu, coco, baiao and other folkloric traditions with a New Orleans second-line backbeat.When
