Really, the best news you could hear as a Sufjan Stevens fan is that he’s releasing a proper new album, to follow up 2005’s revelatory Illinois; not a Christmas album, or a concept album (a la Stevens’ sprawling, multimedia project in celebration of the BQE), or an album of reworked old songs (the forthcoming Run Rabbit Run is a reworking of Enjoy Your Rabbit). But a real, proper album of new songs with actual singing on them. Failing that, you have the next best thing—this series of three intimate shows. At Stevens’ recent A.T.P. gig, he played Seven Swans in its entirety, so expect a similarly un-showy, song-based performance tonight. Support comes from Asthmatic Kitty labelmates Cryptacize, an eccentric Cali indie outfit that includes Chris Cohen, formerly of fellow eccentric Cali indie outfit Deerhoof.
