Franco Zeffirelli’s staging of Puccini’s Turandot quite literally dazzles the eye at times; the ear will have Maria Guleghina’s assumption of the title role to contend with. Marina Poplavskaya is Liù and Marcello Giordani is Calaf (of “Nessun Dorma” renown); Andris Nelsons conducts. On Sat 14 Lise Lindstrom portrays Turandot; on Wed 18 Frank Porretta is Calaf.
