Description
Jessica Pavone, a protean violist, electric-bass player, composer and bandleader best known for her work in avant-garde jazz circles, joins members of the Toomai Quintet in Songs of Synastry and Solitude, a new composition inspired by Leonard Cohen’s songs and recordings by vintage gospel group the Soul Stirrers. As heard on a recently released CD on the Tzadik label, Pavone’s collection of vignettes is patient and clear, occasionally swinging and always heartfelt.
