What Once We Felt
Description
The young playwright Ann Marie Healy crafts a scenario in which digital dissemination of useless information meets eugenics and euthanasia. (In Healy’s world, men have died off, and women reproduce by means of “downloading” babies—receiving an impregnating pill in the mail.) While the play, directed masterfullyby Ken Rus Schmoll, isn’t an entirely successful fusion of sci-fi and literary comedy, it has two big assets: an unfettered imagination and a gift for cultivating ambiguity and menace.—DC
