Description
Austin Pendleton’s often affecting and engaging revival finds lyrical luster in Tennessee Williams’s dismissed 1977 character study, set in New Orleans’s French Quarter in the 1930s. George Morfogen, Carol Schultz, Beth Dixon and Pamela Payton-Wright give fine performances; others are not quite as strong. Pendleton and his cast find the heartbreak in Williams’s “shadowy occupants”; they just don’t always bring them to light.—Diane SnyderWhen
