Description
Red Bull Theater explores lust horizons in this sumptuous revival of Thomas Middleton’s Jacobean tragedy—a wanton soup of pandering, adultery, incest and general lewdness. It would be easy to get lost in the surface dazzle of Jesse Berger’s whip-smart production (especially Clint Ramos’s costumes), but the cast pulls you back into the play’s strange reality. Kathryn Meisle is superb as the sexy, conniving Livia; she is well supported by Jennifer Ikeda, Jacob Fishel, Geraint Wyn Davies, Roberta Maxwell and the delicious Everett Quinton. Once again, Red Bull delivers classical theater with a sharply modern edge: lust without the dust.—AFWhen
