Description
Rwanda’s bloody 1994 civil war is filtered through the eyes of a visiting, tenure-hungry American professor and his family in J.T. Rogers’s stunning international horror story. Staged with keen, bustling verve by Max Stafford-Clark and performed by a fantastic ensemble (including Sam Robards, Linda Powell and Ron Cephas Jones), this the kind of potent, jolting political theater that we should produce on a regular basis to deserve the name of citizens.—DC

After the superb harrowing movie "Hotel Rwanda", this is highly disappointing. Second and third tier acting and direction uniformly dominates, and a gratuitous blowjob and simulated cunnilingus scene shows how desperate the director is to lure the audience when less amateurish acting and direction would suffice. A large statue of the Madonna hovers over the set throughout but the play does not explain why, and ignores the notorious arson Tutsi genocide by two Catholic nuns in 1994, which was planned and co-ordinated by RC church leaders and politicians.
