Polvo + Obits
Description
As stalwarts of the regionally driven ’90s indie scene (Chapel Hill division), Polvo was recognizably of its time: on-the-fly production values, buried vocals and the very occasional melodic hook. But the group’s penchant for East Asian–influenced scales and tunings was always distinctive, to say nothing of Ash Bowie’s and Dave Brylawski’s guitar work. Tonight the band plays a free show in advance of In Prism, its first full-length in more than a decade. Thankfully, the band’s new material is as compellingly weird as its back catalog. Opening is Obits, a noisy local trio led by former Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes frontman Rick Froberg.
