He’s one of the most highly regarded bassists of the postbop generation, yet Cecil McBee’s reputation primarily rests on his work as a flexible, imaginative sideman on adventurous sessions with Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Jackie McLean, Charles Lloyd and Sam Rivers. When the 74-year-old McBee plays his first New York shows as a leader in 30 years, he’ll be joined by seasoned veterans like former Mwandishi trumpeter Eddie Henderson, venerable pianist George Cables and ace drummer Victor Lewis, as well as 23-year-old tenor saxophonist Noah Preminger, a player whose innate lyricism should mesh just fine with this crew.When
