Free-jazz legend Cecil Taylor continues a busy year of performances with a night of solo piano and spoken word at Highline. The Ballroom might seem like a strange locale for Taylor, but he’s never shied away from diverse spaces, having played everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the defunct Cooler, where he collaborated with Thurston Moore in 1997. Taylor’s last appearance, a week of duets with percussionist Tony Oxley at the Village Vanguard, was particularly sublime, so we’re especially stoked to hear what he comes up with on his own tonight.
