Gargoyle Garden
Description
**** (four stars) Ever wonder what it's like to be a preteen loser who somehow befriends a bunch of sassy gargoyles? Jeff LaGreca and B. Allen Schulz's wacky children's musical is about an awkward, lonely boy who is dumped at a boarding school by his rich, carefree parents, and spends his time being miserable on a forbidden rooftop—until the grotesque statues there come alive and entertain him with song. Busted by the school's disciplinarian, he is thrown in the dark basement, where he meets a girl version of himself; both end up back on the roof, where the decaying, broken gargoyles help them learn to love who they are and accept their own strangeness. It's a fun, entertaining show, with a nice lesson for the long-suffering preteen set.—Courtenay Kendall, Photo Editor
