Description
“Resigning oneself to small is sad,” muses Harvey Fierstein in this drab, crabby new musical. “Requesting it is tragic.” In that case, why should anyone seek tickets to this joyless show, with a plaintive book by Fierstein and wishy-washy songs by John Bucchino? Faith Prince plays Aggie, a working-class Bronx woman whose son has recently died in the army, and who wants to use her government-issued bereavement check to give her underappreciated daughter (the underused Leslie Kritzer) an elaborate wedding; Tom Wopat is Aggie’s sullen cab-driver husband. Nebulously directed by John Doyle, the production goes through its musical motions as though dutifully performing a chore.—Adam Feldman
