Richard Shindell, a seminary student who dropped out to make music, ran with New York’s Fast Folk crowd in the ’80s. Now based in Buenos Aires, he remains one of modern folk’s most compelling storytellers. German-born Antje Duvekot has a vaguely country-infused, Suzanne Vega–like sound.
