Description
Max Gordon, impish impresario of the legendary cellar, is gone, but his wife, Lorraine, is still checking people at the door—and shushing them during performances. The crème de la crème of mainstream jazz talent has appeared here for nearly 70 years (Mondays are given over to the 16-piece Vanguard Jazz Orchestra). For seats with decent sight lines, come early to beat the Japanese tourists.
