Description
Two French-born Brooklynites have brought European literary flair to the neighborhood. Music-snob bartenders play lounge and soul while serving French wines and flaming Absente (a perfectly legal substitute for absinthe). Events fill the comfy Beat-ish back room—jazz, folk and world music performances; readings by local authors; and silent movies accompanied by live bands. Intentionally more “French” than French, Barbès manages to be fun without being ironic.
