Description
Artsy types, Bleecker Street buskers and East Village expats mix easily in this French-windowed basement bar, with its flocked wallpaper, Persian rugs and gilded wall sconces. In addition specialty cocktails and draft beers, the menu lists 22 wines by the glass, and barkeeps are happy to provide sample sips. Oenophile co-owner Frank Locker is out to convert Cosmoholics and hops-heads and will gladly give you directions to his wine store across town.

I went here on a first date and was very glad I did. The noise level was just right for conversation, and the music was perfect (some songs recognizable, others new & different; keeps conversation flowing). Wine & cheese platters were very reasonably priced. The waitress was friendly and efficient, and my date was wowed by the platter we ordered. We got a seat on a plush red couch right next to the fireplace. Very romantic, and date was verrrryyy impressed.
