Queen of the Sun

Wonder why so many bees seem to have skeedaddled? This doc provides the answer.

By Andrew Schenker

Where have all the bees gone? That’s the question Taggart Siegel’s doc attempts to answer by interviewing organic farmers about the phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder. With these little honey makers refusing to return to their hives—the upshot of decades of industrialized agriculture—our food supply has become gravely threatened. A cautionary tale about man’s perversion of his environment, Queen of the Sun optimistically counters with a panoply of ravishing shots featuring harmonious interaction between bees and impossibly colorful flowers, even as it plays up “the miracle of nature” angle a tad too heavily.
