Juggling study, work and a social life? Thanks to these 24-hour gyms, you’ll have to find another excuse not to work out.
24 Hour Fitness
225 Fifth Ave at 27th St (212-271-1002, 24hourfitness.com). This West Coast chain is gradually building an eclectic and devoted following. Caught at 3am: Cyrus Moshefri, 18, student. “I just got off the bike—I was studying a script at the same time. At night I can use the empty studios to run through my monologues after I work out. The acting business is a constant competition, so you have to be the best. Not only does coming here keep me in shape, but it does something on the inside—it just feels good.”
New York Sports Club
220 Park Ave between 45th and 46th Sts (212-682-4440, mysportsclubs.com). One of three 24-hour branches in the city, this midtown gym attracts a steady stream of workout fanatics. Caught at 1:45am: Jon Ho, 35, and Kathy Yun, 34, entrepreneurs. “We own our own business and work ridiculous hours, so this is the only time that we can get a workout in,” says Ho.
Synergy Fitness
227 Mulberry St between Prince and Spring Sts (212-219-6383, synergyfitclubs.com). This Nolita gym is open 24 hours Monday through Friday and from 8am to 8pm on weekends. Caught at 2:30am, postworkout: John Wu, 22, student. “I have school during the day and work in the afternoon, so sometimes late at night is the only chance I get to work out. I was obese all my life, and just decided one day to make a change. I’m now 200 pounds—down from 250—and made a commitment to work out no matter what, even if it’s at 2am.”
