The etymology of the term pizza face, is no mystery, really; every acne treatment commercial says that achieving a porcelain complexion means banishing oil—in all forms—from your life. Although it’s still not a good idea to rub your face in a slice of pizza, oil-based remedies are becoming increasingly popular, thanks to their emerging status as a beauty salve.
This month Kiehl’s, the cult New York–based beauty products purveyor, joins the fray by rolling out a new line of oil-based goods for the skin and hair called Superbly Restorative Preparations. The magic ingredient is 100 percent certified organic argan oil that’s been sourced from a fair-trade women’s cooperative in Morocco. This slippery substance, derived from argan nuts, is chock-full of nourishing natural fatty acids, and a large dose of vitamin E—which is used to treat skin conditions ranging from acne and dry skin to wrinkles and scars.
The standout of the collection is the multipurpose Superbly Restorative Dry Oil, which can be used on the hair, face and body. Called a “dry oil” because it’s absorbed upon contact, the antioxidant-rich formula smooths split ends, polishes skin and smells like a freshly scrubbed hippie thanks to its natural blend of orange, eucalyptus, patchouli and cedarwood essential oils. And, unlike that greasy paper plate your slice is served on, the plastic packaging is made from 100 percent recycled materials.
Argan Oil is a great beauty product. Best results can be seen when it's used by itself. I've been hooked to this oil, my skin is at its best. I tried many different brands all from women's cooperative but the quality was never great. My friend recommended Jebel Argan Oil, it's pure, organic and hand pressed (no machines involved so the quality is unbelievable).
