Though local brand Hayden-Harnett’s slouchy leather satchels are staples at many a Manhattan boutique including Wink and Leontine, founders Toni Hacker and Ben Harnett chose a quiet corner of northern Brooklyn for their first flagship. Complete with a wooden antelope head, pressed-tin ceilings and groovy diamond-print wallpaper, the homey emporium dishes up HH’s superfemme clothing including sleek anoraks ($298) and elegant metallic-linen sheath dresses ($298) along with Thomas Paul silk throw pillows (from $74) and luxe French-milled soaps ($4 and up) by La Compagnie de Provence. But if you came in on a mission for some new arm candy, you won’t be disappointed: A bevy of handbags flank the white walls, including mod geometric-print coin purses ($28) and cotton satchels ($285) featuring exploded plaids by French textiles designer Paule Marrot. 211 Franklin St at Freeman St (718-349-2247)

Permanent Records
Sure, the white-earbud set rules the G train but vinyl lovers can paw through hundreds of LPs at this light-filled album haven. The genre-spanning range of 45s should keep both jazz lovers and rockers happy, and bins of CDs provide a more up-to-date selection of tunes. Dalaga
Owner Michelle Mangiliman named her frilly joint after the Tagalog term for “a quintessential woman in her prime,” but guys won’t feel neglected. Though the space—decked out with a Victorian bedroom set—verges on supergirly, racks of wallet-friendly dresses ($45–$300) from Mangiliman’s own line mingle with pared-down men’s shirts ($50–$110) from culty West Coast brand Shades of Greige and Hudson jeans ($156–$187), providing enticing loot for both genders. 150 Franklin St between Greenpoint Ave and Kent St (718-389-4049)

Alter
Designer Roy Caires and photographer Tommy Cole’s punky boutique landed across the street from rustic bar the Pencil Factory just over a year ago, but it’s already become a fixture for those in the know. The two-room spot hosts a well-edited and ever-changing array of edgy clothes and accessories such as dapper men’s brogues ($140) from minimalist footwear firm Schmoove, Renee C striped asymmetric sweaters ($65) for the ladies and Caires’s and Cole’s collaborative effort, This Old Thing?, which is a line of reworked vintage pieces. Word
Henry Miller grew up not too far from this quaint literary emporium, one of Little Warsaw’s only outposts for non-Polish books. And though this anti–Barnes & Noble carries classics on par with the Tropic of Cancer author, the quaint shop also proffers more up-to-date titles like Junot Diaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ($25) and The Great Man from Greenpoint writer Kate Christensen ($24). Folks who are more image-driven will gravitate toward the graphic novel and children’s sections, and the quirky letterpress stationery ($4–$18). Zoe’s Beauty Products
When the cosmetics aisle at Rite Aid won’t suffice, head to this homey primping palace for hard-to-source goods such as Bare Escentuals mineral foundation ($25), creams from German skin-care line Babor ($32–$120), Voluspa candles ($17–$34) and Mason Pearson brushes ($35–$130).
