“Pictures in Bed” series

Last March, Williamsburg photographer Jacob Pritchard, 26, and his now ex-girlfriend, Marion, were lying in bed, basking in their postsex glow, when he thought, How cool would it be if I could press a button and capture this moment?

Shortly thereafter, Pritchard installed a camera and lights directly above his bed, and hooked the setup to a remote trigger that he could push whenever he felt inspired. That marked the start of his intimate “Pictures in Bed” series (picturesinbed.com), featuring all manner of locals canoodling, lounging with cats, smoking hookahs, bumping uglies and doing everything else people do in bed but rarely think to memorialize.

Pritchard has shot more than ten beds to date and has received volunteer requests from around the world (L.A., Milan, etc.). It’s clear his subjects trust him. Says Pritchard, “When I take the camera down, I let them look at the photos first; if they go a bit too far, they can always delete it.”—Lauren Levinson
