Let's get it on...
Get Naked
Dan Koplowitz, 29; owner of Friendly Fire Recordings; Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Says Dan: “I’m a friendly, adventurous, outgoing, left-of-center San Francisco native who follows current events, wears his heart on his sleeve, loves dancing, kicks ass at Scrabble, and appreciates good beer and tasty food. I am an intensely loyal friend, a seasoned traveler, and a lover of art and culture, both high and low. Also, me smart.”
What Dan wants: “I’m looking for someone witty, kind, creative and able to keep up with me. Night owls, pinball players, George Saunders readers, foodies and indie-rock types all get an A+ in my book.”
About Dan’s job: “I’ve been pretty much living and breathing music since I started my first (very amateurish) record label at the age of 14. These days, I run Friendly Fire Recordings, a label that I started out of my bedroom five years ago that specializes in fractured indie pop, electronic shoegaze and everything in between . I deejay around town from time to time and do A&R for a music-marketing company too.”
Dan’s top five favorite albums: The Olivia Tremor Control’s Black Foliage: Animation Music Vol. 1, Nick Drake’s Bryter Layter, The Velvet Underground’s Andy Warhol, Daft Punk’s Discovery, and Spiritualized’s Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
The last amazing concert he saw: “Mono’s set at the Lincoln Center last month was skull-crushingly awesome. And Kelley Polar was amazing at P.S.1 last summer—totally uplifting cosmic disco.”
Bonus info: “I’m learning Swedish, so I can help translate the names of your Ikea furniture.”

I saw Julia play a set at Pianos and I was really impressed. Her lyrics are thoughtful. She is mature beyond her influences. She can sing the blues while maintaining her signature slow-burning vocal delivery.
