Let's get it on...
Get Naked
Bushwick (duh)
Tee off with a round of mini-golf at the artist-designed courses of the Putting Lot (12 Wyckoff Ave between Jefferson and Troutman Sts; theputtinglot.org; $5). Play through holes that are designed around themes of urban sustainability, so you’re actually in the art. that Once you tire of impressing your date with holes-in-one, walk over to 3rd Ward (195 Morgan Ave between Meadow and Stagg Sts; 718-715-4961, 3rdward.com), for Wednesday night’s Drink N Draw (8–10:30pm, $15, bring a friend $10 each). They’ll provide the nude and the PBRs, all you have to do is show your romantic co-star that mini-golf isn’t your only creative skill. Finish the night with a slice from the wood-burning oven in artisanal pizza joint Roberta’s (261 Moore St at Bogart St; 718-417-1118, robertaspizza.com) and make a flattering sketch of your date on a napkin.
The gallery-free date
Rendezvous at Doma Café (17 Perry St at Seventh Ave South; 212-929-4339) to eat and discuss the Doug Boehm’s exhibit. Then head east for a drink at Gallery Bar (120 Orchard St between Delancey and Rivington Sts; 212-529-2266, gallerybarnyc.com), where LES artist Zito has set up his studio for the summer to paint the clientele’s portraits. If you balk at the suggested donation (it was $100 per portrait last summer), settle for a $5 portrait in the photo booth at the back of the bar. Then stop resisting the inevitable and head to Williamsburg and dance the night away under the “Futuristic Forest” installation at experimental art and music locale Glasslands (289 Kent Ave between South 1st and 2nd Sts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn; glasslands.com). Make sure you point out Andy Jordan’s bear head and Rachel Byrd’s birds nest chandelier.
Outdoor art
Follow the tune of public art pied piper Creative Time (creativetime.org) to Governors Island (open Fri 11am–4pm, Sat–Sun noon–6pm) this summer where it is installing the site-specific conceptual works by 19 artists in “This World & Nearer Ones.” Before boarding the ferry at the Battery Maritime Building (10 South St at Broad St), observe a moment of hand percussion in memory of David Byrne’s musical takeover of the space last year. Once on the island, artist Mark Wallinger’s installation at the ferry landing gives you a choice between entrances for sheep or goats, a biblical reference asking you to consider the moments when you have to decide. Decide to go straight to Bike and Roll (212-260-0400, bikeandroll.com; $10 one hour, $15 two hours, $20 all day) and rent two wheels to explore the rest of Creative Time’s art, the Interactive Sculpture Garden by City of Dreams and work from the Sculptors Guild.
