TUE 21 WHAT’S BREWING
One day, when you grow up, you will seek out good teas that look and taste nothing like the Lipton’s you consume daily. To prepare for such a moment, you’d be wise to consider the tea-tasting workshop at T Salon and T Emporium. For two hours, you’ll learn about the six different types of tea (black, green, oolong, Darjeeling, white and red), how to prepare a perfect cup and how the beverage can help you stay healthy.
“Cupping,” an evening workshop on tea tasting.
T Salon and T Emporium, 11 E 20th St at Broadway. 7–9pm. To register, call 212-362-9074. $45.
THROUGH MAR 24 GRAPPA YOUR PARTNER
Any restaurant that’s stuck it out for 25 years deserves to celebrate its longevity. Villa Berulia is proudly honoring its silver anniversary this month with a special deal: Diners get complimentary champagne and wine with their meals, plus tableside tastings of eight different homemade grappas—including odd flavors such as carob, fig, anise and almond—from the owners’ family estate in Croatia.
25th Anniversary Special.
Villa Berulia, 107 E 34th St between Park and Lexington Aves. Call 212-689-1970 for reservations.
THROUGH APR 20 CONFIDENTIAL KITCHENS
The craziest, most chaotic place in any restaurant is the one space normally hidden from public view—the kitchen, known in hospitality-industry parlance as “the back of the house.” Now through April 20, you can view a series of black-and-white photos documenting the hustle and bustle of chefs, line cooks, waiters and busers by Michael Harlan Turkell, a Brooklyn photographer who’s worked in restaurant kitchens for six years. FREE.
“Back of the House.”
